What It Covers

Five domains of finance operations

The Finance Operations Review assesses five domains — the same five used in the AI Readiness Assessment — giving you a complete picture of current-state maturity and the specific actions required to advance.

Domain A — Data and system foundations

Quality and completeness of master data, chart-of-accounts structure, system of record consolidation, and data governance. This domain determines whether AI and automation can operate reliably — it is the gating condition for all downstream maturity.

Domain B — Process automation

Current automation coverage across procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, record-to-report, and expense management. Identifies specific processes that are manual, partially automated, or fully automated — and the gap to best-practice benchmarks.

Domain C — Reporting and analytics

Reporting frequency, latency, and analytical depth. Close cycle duration, self-service BI adoption, forecast accuracy, and the degree to which finance is operating as a strategic advisor versus a reporting function.

Domain D — Governance and controls

Approval workflow completeness, segregation of duties, audit trail coverage, and AI governance framework maturity. Domain D is a gateway domain — organisations without basic controls in place cannot safely advance to automation or AI stages.

Domain E — Team and change readiness

Finance team capacity, capability mix, change management history, and stakeholder alignment. Transformation programmes that fail to account for team readiness consistently underdeliver — regardless of platform quality.

The Process

How the Finance Operations Review works

1

Pre-review questionnaire

A structured 30-question questionnaire completed by the CFO or Finance Director prior to the review session. Covers current system landscape, process inventory, team structure, and known pain points. Takes approximately 45 minutes.

2

Discovery workshop

A half-day structured workshop with the finance leadership team — typically CFO, FC, and a senior finance manager. We work through each of the five domains in depth, probing responses, identifying contradictions, and building an accurate picture of current-state maturity.

3

System and process observation

Where possible, we observe key processes in action — month-end close, invoice processing, reporting production — to validate questionnaire responses against operational reality. This is the step most organisations find most revealing.

4

Maturity report and roadmap

A written report covering: current-state maturity scores across all five domains, gap analysis against Stage 2 and Stage 3 benchmarks, a sequenced transformation roadmap with indicative timelines and investment ranges, and a recommended next step.

5

Leadership debrief

A 60-minute debrief with the CFO and any other relevant leadership team members — presenting findings, answering questions, and agreeing the recommended next step. This session is designed to provide the evidence base for an internal investment conversation.

What You Get
